Google Wallet now available on Samsung Galaxy Nexus on AT&T, some Verizon users also able to install

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well, this is interesting. Up until now, Google Wallet has only been officially available to Nexus S 4G owners on Sprint, but tonight it seems that that's changed. The folks at Droid-Life have discovered that the Google Wallet app is now available to install onto an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Nexus with an AT&T SIM card installed. The download apparently works just like any other app from the Android Market. You can find the app in the Market right here.

Perhaps even more interestingly, Droid-Life has discovered that it's possible to get Google Wallet installed on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus as well. There was quite a bit of noise surrounding the Verizon Galaxy Nexus launch due to the fact Wallet wouldn't be made available to the Ice Cream Sandwich handset. Through a bit of trickery, though, several Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have been able to install Wallet directly from the Market, no hacking involved. There are a couple of methods to getting the app loaded onto the Verizon GalNex that involve accessing the Android Market from your browser and then moving into the Market from there. The longer method worked fine on my own Verizon Galaxy Nexus, so if you've got the handset and want to give Google Wallet a go, mosey on over to Droid-Life using this link and try it out.

It's not yet clear exactly why Google Wallet is now available to owners of the unlocked Galaxy Nexus on AT&T, but considering how long the service has been exclusive to Sprint's Nexus S 4G, I'm not sure that many folks will be stopping to ask tonight. As for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, you owners of the LTE ICS handset should probably hop on this while you can if you're interested. If you've got a Galaxy Nexus on either AT&T or Verizon and decide to load Google Wallet up on your device, be sure to let us know how it goes in the comments!
